What role does power play in government, economy, and politics?

Power plays a huge role in government, politics and the economy because those three things is what our counrty is based around. Take a look at anyone who is in a higher position. They have power and if you think about it, they didn't get to where they are without having power. Just think about the definition of what power is; power is having the ability to control and to change what is around you. The government has the power to put laws into effect. The government is made f political leaders who have power to raise new issues that need to change. Political runners have power to persuade citizens to vote their way because they are better and can utlize their power more efficently. The economy is a little bit tougher because people are really the ones who control that. If you are spending, then you aren't gaining thus causing loss and the economy goes down. But it can go up if people are spending and profit is gained. Without power, people would run wild because there would be no order no "higher power" to answer to. Power is our gift but also our consequence both to and from the government, politics and economy. Some people abuse it but others do good with it.

Critical question: If every person had an equal opportunity and our government really did operate as a democracy, what do you think would happen with government, economy and politics?

Here is how I think of it: if people had more power maybe they wouldn't complain so much when things didn't go their way....wouldn't that be nice!

I also found an interesting article that you guys can check out. Here is the citation,
Meyerson, Harold. "Harold Meyerson - What's Holding Back the U.S. Economy?" Washington Post - Politics, National, World & D.C. Area News and Headlines - Washingtonpost.com. Washington Post, 3 Feb. 2011. Web. 06 Feb. 2011.

  1. Review

The blog opens stating the subject under question: what role does power play in government, economy, and politics. First making it clear that the three are the base for the American country. Joelle continues by illustrating power and its effect with higher officials. Leading into her thoughts of the economy and its need to cycle money. Ending with a critical question and her own answer to the question she presents.
Personally, I found Joelle’s view interesting. I can relate the economy notes to a microeconomics class that argues demand and supply as well as capital gain. I also find her use in the term “higher power” as intriguing. It can refer to many things such as the big “G”, as well as morals and politicians. I also liked how the critical question was formed. By answering it herself with her own example of where she thinks it is going brings a lot of character and passion for the subject at hand into the blog.
There are some improvements that I found that could be inputted, but not many. One way to strengthen the blog would be to make more examples of the economy. Maybe explain a little more about what is happeing in the economy today such as how the government has a key hand in the economy, especially concerning the market.
Overall I enjoyed the perception. It opened some more insight into views of others. I found it to be a rather strong blog with room for the reader to lay their own questions on the table.

  2. Peer Review
There are plenty of strengths to this blog. Not only do I like the color and “theme” but for a first blog, Joelle has plenty of links, videos, pictures, references for additional readings, and reactions. All of these things I haven’t quite figured out myself, and are something that I really admire. There is a lot of content to the blog.

This review lacks the required opening paragraph, stating “how you perceive the vision and mission of the blog” because the main weakness is there is no strong mission or vision statement. An “outsider” would not quite know why you were blogging. You could fix this by adding a page or side column note stating why you are blogging.

Overall I like the blog. Joelle has personalize it and “made it her own.” Her writing is good and I like all of the “bells and whistles.”
